Hey up, missed this one.

Anyone with a bread fly is welcome to show me how to catch carp, and a popper to catch Trout, or a Sawyer Killer Bug to catch Grayling... in fact if they want to catch fish it's fine with me as long as it isn't with TNT.

Nice Step-By-Step.

Colin you grouch Laughing live and let live.. but you did go on the attack at the start, there's a difference saying "you wouldn't do it" and calling it "not fly fishing". One is a personal opinion, the other is a digital statement.

Kev,
No joke but whats wrong with TNT.
Live and let live.
If people want to use TNT to get a couple of fish then why not. As far as I know its not barred in the rules. Ie Ive yet to visit a fishery where it says in the rules.
No TNT. Anyone caught using TNT will be barred.
So why cant peole use TNT.

There's a difference between catching a fish fairly using a hook with a dressing on, a fly line, a fly reel and a fly rod and using TNT.

Fly fishing has been elitist for too long, if someone is not causing any harm to another angler nor the water in which they're fishing then there's no problem. Live and let live right?

Becase it ruins the environment, kills everything and is not selective enough when it takes out 50metres of life.

You were joking right?. TNT isn't even pretending to be fishing it's pure destruction where a bread fly still allows you to catch and release a fish without total environment demolition. Shock

Kev
"TNT isn't even pretending to be fishing"
You have an idea what fishing or flyfishing should be.
So do I and I stated so.

These are my beliefs...if anyone's interested.

If it's cast on a beach rod into the sea...it's sea fishing.
If it's cast on a coarse fishing rod into freshwater...it's coarse fishing.
If it's cast on a fly rod into the sea...it's salt water fly fly fishing.
If it's cast on a fly rod into water containing trout/salmon/grayling...it's fly fishing.
If it's cast on a fly rod into freshwater..it's fly fishing.

End of story.

Sorted.

Finito.

Proper job.

If you wanna cast a stick of dynamite on a rod...it's f*ckin' dangerous. I hope you can run....

Rich

Colin I know what point you are trying to make but those lengths are barmy. Nobody sane on the planet would suggest that TNT is a valid way of fishing. We can argue sensibly about imatative or dry fly v nymph fishing but you are really going off on one here with TNT.

I'm not disagreeing about your right to call fishing what YOU feel fishing to be, or to fish how YOU like to fish.

I do dislike desparaging remarks at other people who believe they are fly fishing and you disagree, so you don't think it's fly fishing - fair comment. others (myself included) do. We don't pour scorn on you for not being dry fly only, so try not to pull others down just because their zone and your zone don't overlap. If people want to fish for carp using a bread fly.. why not. Don't condone it but don't slag em off either.

How would you react if an upstream dry-fly man started slating you for putting up a step-by-step Minkie/Zonker?

That's why angling is not unified and that's why we end up with hundreds of "wee groups", remember the ACA thread??.. ipso facto.

I know you well enough to have this discussion over a pint so no worries about that, shall we save this one for Scotland, call it a draw and i'll by the Scotch!.
