My sister and brother-in-law are over from Australia for a couple of weeks and we decided to take them out for a day on "Broadbill". It was really calm, mostly sunny and hot with a thunder storm away to the south moving in towards the Usumbara Mountains. We headed up the drop off towards Chale Point to see if we migt not be able to find a sail or two as some have been seen there recently. We just saw one free jumper but regularly picked up dorado and one job fish, also known as a green snapper or locally as either a 'mirongo' or 'shikushangwe'. After about 10am since nothing much was happening we headed out in to deeper water and south to Pemba plateau. The water is still really clean and blue and despite the southerly wind there was a really nice rip showing in centre channel. We continued picking up dorado at regular intervals and then started seeing loads of football tuna, yellowfin and skipjacks. Actually on the way home there were skippies jumping out of the water all over the place ands one that we were fighting started jumping out of the water like a dorado! Obviously something was chasing that fellow although we never got to see what it was but perhaps live bait my be a good idea.

We are going out again on Friday on my own boat "Kamara II" so wil see if the tunas are still there. Since my fighting chair is in Mombasa being repaired if we do put livies on they will have to be on stand-up gear. There was a big thunder storm in behind us last night and more wind today so will see what tomorrow brings.
