Hi All,

I've managed to convince myself I need a 6wt 9ft'er, I favour quickish actions, my favourite rod I own is a 5wt XP and love it, I also have a 7wt XP which is nice but I rarely use it, hence a change to a lighter tool, a few rods keep jumping out as good value/performance,

Gordon II
Guideline LPXe

It's going to be difficult to try any of the above without a lot of travelling around, so any comments from owners etc would be great, I wish to keep with the fastish action as I find them easier to control, the rod will be used on still waters mainly for dries and perhaps a bit of intermediate line work, a few of the stillwaters I fish are a bit prone to blustery type winds so a rod which can cut a wind would be a must, If Ive missed an obvious choice please shout out, I would like to keep the budget under £300.

Without doubt, the Guideline Lpxe. Fantastic rod, you wont be disappointed.

I have also cast the CPS in that length and model, and the Guideline is the better rod IMO.

Thanks Stew, Ryan, Tony & Alex, I did try a bloke but found it a bit tip heavy, The CPS from that very buyer is on my watch list, I had almost made my mind up on the CPS but the LPXe got such high praise on "that other forum" it's thrown me a bit, iirc Ryan was one of the guys who loved the rod, I've still to get my head around a 4 piece tool, I've stuck with 2 or 3 piece rods so far, I have owned a 7wt Gordon and in all honesty could not fault it other than perhaps a bit strong when playing fish under the tip, you needed to be gentle.
Not an easy choice, 2 or 3 great rods available for average money, hell, I hope I can avoid the heads or tails option.

Hi Viking.

I also have, and love , a Gordon #7 Mk I, as well as several other rods, Greys, etc.

A fortnight ago I bought a secondhand 9' #6 Gordon Mk I.

It's already pushing to become my favourite rod. A bit less stiff & tippy than the 10' #7 but really light and. well...., just nice to use.

I expect the Mk II will be just as nice as it's built on the same blank I believe (but you can still get Mk I,s new if you so wish. My local tackle shop has some).

I'll vouch for the Beulah that PP has mentioned.

I have one and it's taken the place of my Sage XP (9ft 6" #6).

Can present a fly more accurately and at a better distance that I ever could with the Sage.

Got mine a at very good price too.

Another vote for the Beulah from me. They're very nice rods to cast with although admittedly I've only used the 7#
