Not really a set pattern, rather a method of tying baitfish patterns with a mixture of Steve Farrar Blend, (or mushmouth blend) and Angel Hair, developed by renowned Boston (USA) based angler and fly tier Dave Skok.

Dave uses a spine of Super Hair coated with Softex, Softbody, or similar to create these lifelike baitfish imitations in his mushmouth series, allied to liberal doses of the same bonding material in the initial stages of the tying. This makes the finished article 100% foul proof, no matter what length of fly is being tied.

Enormously successful patterns, throughout the states, and whilst initially the fly might not look to have much movement, test it in the water, and all the straggly bits come to life.

The version illustrated below is a Bunker or Herring style Mushy, and I recently left a few with a couple of guides over in Montauk, who have since informed me they have been having excellent results, both with the one pictured, and an Olive version I also tied for them.

As this is not an SBS Posting Section, and the Mushy series can be tied in many formats, but at the same time requires a rather specialist procedure, anyone wishing to have a go at tying these most productive flies, should take a look at Dave's website, and in particular, his SBS's where everything is explained in great detail.
