If you want a superb days C&R fishing look no further than the new Farmoor 1. I never really liked Farmoor but my son wanted a days fishing..he doesn't get out much any more and Farmoor is close to his girlfriends new pad near Burford.
Conditions looked pretty dire when we arrived..very low water, Thames Water had drawn off a lot, brilliant sun blazing out of a cloudless sky, little or no breeze and a green film on part of the water.
More in hope than expectation we tackled up and cast out. As feared, nothing happened for about twenty minutes and then my line straightened and I was into something. Immediately followed by a whoop from my son and I do not exagerate, two express trains took off for the middle of the lake! Both took a whole line and a load of backing out. Since we only had one net, I thought we would deal with my sons fish first but that fish had other ideas.
Mine eventually came to the net after several huge runs, out into the lake and up and down the bank..a lovely fish of near four pounds. We eventually got my sons fish to the net...well over six lbs and both fish had tails like shovels and were in superb condition.
This set the pattern for the rest of the morning. All beautiful fish..I don't think anything was less than near four lbs. and between ten and one o'clock I had six beauties to the net and was smashed twice. The afternoon was tough..the sun was high in the sky, no breeze to speak of but we still managed a couple more each.
What amazed me was that there were only two other guys in Farmoor 1 but all the boats were out on Farmoor 2.
I have never encountered fish that fought so hard...if you don't want severe line burn make sure you have a reel with a good drag and fast retrieve.
In short for a "sporting" day I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Some pics:

What were you catching them on? _________________ To be able to wing correctly a small dry fly is the height of attainment in trout fly dressing and is the most difficult part of the art... Roger Woolley |

Apologies
I am a bit ignorant here.
Do you have any pics of these flies - for the uninitiated?
Or any past pics you can point me in the direction of?

The 'ol French Partridge again eh Roy?
I remember at Elinor this year that accounted for quite a few fish when you fished next to me. _________________ "The measure of a good fisherman is not what he catches but how he enjoys the moment" - Richard Walker |

Hi Chris,
They are the two flies I have total confidance in..trouble is, I'm a "One Trick Pony" If neither of those work on still waters, I've had it!!!
MA. This is the French Partridge. It's a May Fly pattern but I fish it both wet and dry. Seems to work all year round for me.
Bloodworms come in all shapes but I use an Apps variant

Hi All, just to give you an update!!
The RAF fished a Bank Match on Farmoor 2 on Monday 06 Oct from 10.00 till 18.00. Wind was S/SW slight and the Air Temp was about 15 C.
14 Anglers had 53 fish for a total weight of 111lb and 11oz.
Rod Ave 3.78, weight ave 2lb and 1 oz.
The winning team (of two) had 15 fish for 32lbs and the winning individual bag was 8 fish for 16 and half pounds biggest fish was 3lb dead!!
Boobies, minkies and some dries accounted, and the fisah were willing to take at varying depths, varying from hard on the bottom, slow retrieve, to right in the surface. Succesful colours mainly black/dark.
A great days fishing, and as always top quality fish and very helpful staff!!
Brill! _________________ Cheers
