Another one from Dave Skok, a simple Zonker fly which is guaranteed 100% foul proof, easy to tie, is a terrific pattern for all sorts of SW fish, and would no doubt take its fair share of rainbows as well.

I have taken Bluefish and Stripers on this pattern from up in the NE of the USA, and Kingfish, Dorado, Speckled Trout, Jacks and Tripletail from warmer climes.

Can be tied in a variety of colours, but the standard SW shades of White, Tan, Chartreuse and Olive seem to be the favourites.

Here is the link to the full SBS tying procedures, which is well worth looking at:- http://www.saltwaterflies.com/ezzonker.html

Hook: Mustad C70 SD, Tiemco 811s, Gamakatsu SL11-3H, or similar, Sizes 4 to 2/0
Thread: White 8/0
Body: Pearl or Siver EZ Body Tubing - Small Size
Underbody: Pearl Flashabou or other similar Flash material. This is not wound around the hookshank, rather passed through the EZ body (See SBS link)
Wing: Rabbit Zonker Strip. Mink or similar smaller Zonker strips can be substituted in the smaller sizes.....White Chartreuse, Tan, Olive, or colour of your choice.
Eyes: Flat: Stick On
Gills: Red pantone pen
Head: White which if you wish, can be dabbed on top with a very small application from a non waterproof marker pen the same colour as the wing, and with the aid of wetted fingers is then blended down the sides of the head to form a 2 tone effect.
Finish: Head & Eyes Tuffleyed or Epoxied for strength. Same applies to the Zonker tie down point at the rear of the fly.
