Hard luck, Andrew.
With the water levels down it doesn't take much wind to stir the silt up.
Does anyone know how the Butcombe end is fishing? I don't think that end is so badly affected by silt discolouring the water in a Westerly.
Trout and I had some good sessions from the stones in November a few seasons ago.

Thanks for your report Andrew, still sounds grim, will be interested to read Bob's report. - As mentioned earlier I have wiped my sword for this season.
Blanked on my Scottish foray for salmon on the Stinchar but fished a smallish trout fishery called Pinbraid (I think) just outside Colmonell and had a pleasant afternoon or two with C&R for Rainbows. Big Al had an 81/2lbr which gave him a merry dance.
Cheers for now

Hi
Fished the tanks on wednesday morning tried number 3 first but no luck there did not not see much moving either, so i moved to number 1 and fished by the ramp i saw quite a few fish by my feet they were patrolling up and down. I managed to catch one fish just under 2 pounds which i caught on a hares ear i had to go at 12 o clock but felt i would catch more if i stayed on.There were anglers either side of me and i saw them catch aswell on small db. |

Thanks for your report Swampy the tanks seem to be the only place catching. - Reading Bob's report today (last of the year I would think) Chew has all but finished on a wimper.
He has tried to be bullish about the catch and fishing the margins BUT whichever way you cut it the backend has been very poor only 90 odd fish to 77 rods last week - very bullish about the pike fishing though!!

Having not been able to get out the last few weeks because of more pressing activities I headed for the tanks early this morning.
Fished one first at the top corner from the ramp. Tried everything. Fry, lures, boobies, nymphs, even tried a 'small native rodent' fly (I have no shame). Only dries and buzzers didn't get an outing. Used floating lines, slow inter, inter and even di3 (fastest sinking line I have). Nothing. Two other chaps fished for a bit an moved on one caught a single fish from further round tank 1 on his way to tanks 2. Took a look in the flow and saw two nice browns that were is some sort of territorial stand off, just circling each other. Very odd.
On the ramp every now and then a fish was charging the stickle back sholes.
About 10am I thought a move was in order. I had nothing in the way of any interest. Got to the corner of 2 and not a sole on either lake. Fished the natural banks for maybe and hour. No signs of life. Both 1 and 2 were a bit coloured.
Over the road to 3 I went. Two anglers were leaving and had been on the pipe. Spoke to one who had had three fish. One to a lure but spooning it they were full of insect so he had caught two more on diawl bachs. He didn't tell me what insect they were and I assumed buzzers.
There were 5 people fishing, two on the pipe, the rest spread from the platform round to Crawfords. Didn't appear to be catching, any of them.
I Fished against the A38 where you access the lake. Water in 3 clearer. Nothing, on to the platform. Nothing. So I headed for Crawfords. On the way a chap was packing up at the steps just past the pipe, half way to Crawfords. He had been mousing (yes the native rodent fly) and had his limit. Figured there had to be fish they so sat on the wall and thought what next.
Thinking back to the chap in the car park I thought I'd run out the buzzers. New leader and three buzzers on, gh black 14 on the point, 14 tiger buzzer bottom dropper and black 14 on the top. Wind was not just right here, too left to right and the belly in the line quickly formed and dragged the whole rig round too fast. So I put a strike indicator at the top of the leader. This allowed me to mend the line every now and then and slow it all up, hanging the leader vertical in the water. First cast with this and the indicator slid away. Missed the fish as I wasn't expecting it.
Took two fish, one to the black top dropper one to the tiger. Missed another couple. Without the indicator I would have missed the takes. Very tentative. They had stickle backs and buzzer in them.
Headed home to watch the rugby.
The chaps on the pipe had a couple each but had been fishing a lot over the last weeks and said it was quieter than it had been. The fish they had were stuffed with corixa! Guess they must have come through the pipe because there are not that many naturally in 3 I don't think.
Cheers,
Mark |

Great report, Mark!
I was in two minds whether to go out today but in the end I decided the wind might cause a problem with the clarity on the main lakes. I never gave the tanks a though so more fool me. Had I done so I would have given them a go as I haven't fished them this season.
I'm just hoping we get another settled spell before the end of November.
Alan
PS Forgive my ignorance, but where exactly is 'Crawfords' again ? _________________ Member of ...

Alan, the part I believe is called Crawfords, is on the A38 bank, go past the pipe and the set if iron steps on the bend. That is where I fished, then another 100 yards plus there is a platform or buttress where the tank stone lining steps out into the reservoir a bit. It ends just before the first of the house gardens on the opposite side of A38.
You can see it clear as day on www.aboutmyplace.co.uk
http://www.aboutmyplace.co.uk/showmap?id=8659&type=region&search_location=dundry
Drop in on the aerial view of three by Dundry Lane.
Here is a photo looking back along it. You can see the far end of it step back in half way up the picture.
Cheers,

Great report Mark. Did you tie those native rodent flies yourself? That makes it OK
I was hoping to get out this morning, but work has got in the way |

Anyone out before the end of the year?
I'm trying to wangle a final few hours on Saturday morning. I believe the Allrounder Booby does well at this time of year? |

I don't think I'll get out again this year on BW's Dave. While the rain persists, I'm going to sort out the fly boxes for the start of next year and when it stops I'm going to get after the grayling a bit, Mark |
