for those who didn't know, my new rod broke on the social for no reason so i sent it back, it's back here again this morning so i will be going to Thornton on Thursday to see if it can take the strain, wish me luck _________________ when i was a course fisherman i had bag weights to remember, now i am a trout fisherman i have bag weights i can take home!!!
Some great photos there, forgot my bleedin' camera doh!
Float tubing aint for me, too much like hard work, I'd have to be dragged down to the water with a gun to my head to do that again.
That wasn't me snoring by the way, that was the fit bird from up the pub.
Apart from Paul, Richard and Ifor who did a great job organising everything and everyone else who helped and contributed to make this a great weekend, special mention must go to Roy, what a great example to us all, you are a fighter me old buddy.

Well, it was with very mixed emotions I sat and read my way through this thread and wished that I could have been with you, this was the very first Thornton I have missed and it is a tribute to the people that put in the effort and Ifor for hosting us that it is still as popular today as always.
I would have dossed down with Spider after cribbing a room for the night, drank the inevitable too much booze, woke up FFC in a grump, begged tablets and coffee at Tony's cafe, laughed myself stupid at the Pirate and all the "buffalo's"..
And hugged everyone 3 times before driving off....
Great pics and hope one day to see some of you in Canada,

- You'll never forget Mark.. sorry about that I seem to have scarred you for life...
Fishing is just awesome but I still haven't got the hang of the Steelhead yet, it's akin to our Salmon Fishing where runs/water levels and clarity play a huge role in the end result.
Non-Migratory fish - got them well sussed, Bass, Brown Trout, Rainbows (wild), Speckled (Char) Trout and Pike/Musky are to be found all over the place and every lake/stream is free to fish as long as the acess land isn't private, the rivers and lakes have no "fishing rights" so if you can get to them without plodding over someones prize turnips (which reminds me Hello Whistle-Killer) you can flog the water to a foam happily.
If you Go0gle these rivers Grand, Credit, Nottawasaga, Beaver, Bighead, Maitland, Saugeen, Sauble, these are the Southern Rivers running into the Great Lakes. The Salmon are just obscene.. 30-40lb beasts that run from August to October and then just die and you see them on the river banks and in the bottom of deep pools just rotting away...
The Small Mouth and Large Mouth Bass fishing is heaven in Summer.. Poppers/Streamers, Deer Hair Mice, Frogs and Crayfish patterns all do well and I landed my PB Smallmouth of over 5lb this year.
We are right into Steelhead Season and I was out on Sunday on the Grand River below Paris on the Catch-and-Release section where loads of fly fisherman were spey casting on this clear shallow and wide stretch called steelhead alley just below whitemans creek. Scenery is magnificent, not quite BC or the Rocky mountains but lovely all the same.
As soon as I lnd a steelie I'll be crowing on the forum, winter is here now so i'll pop in more often to chat with the girls..
Anyrode up - I did moss Thornton and I hope someone missed me.. even if it was for lack of stupid pictures of me stuck in the weeds
Take Care Guys,

Very nice to hear from you, Kev. I did make a couple of days at Thornton but my camping days are over..had to stay in a Hotel just up the road. Didn't mar the event, too much for me tho'.
Irritatingly, I can now only manage one days fishing at a time, now. Still, having said that...I am STILL fishing _________________ Roy

Kev,
The fishing sounds crap, I feel really sorry for you with only that small amount of fishing available........ Yeah right, you lucky git.
I'm glad your having a good time over that side of the pond.
What is your favourite quarry ?
I must admit the threat of getting eaten for dinner by a bear would affect my enjoyment in the wild out there.
I'm off to Cape Cod next June as far as I know there aren't any bears there. It's the Great Whites what will eat you instead
I missed you at the Social if only for your Chilli

The only reason he moved over there is that the fish throw themselves at the flies Mark. It's all rather unsporting and vulgar, a bit like Strictly Come Dancing.
Turnip indeed! Nice to hear from you Kev and yes, you were sorely missed this year. You'll have to buck your ideas up for the next one young fella-me-lad!
