My job took me to North West Bristol this morning and as I had 'accidently' forgotten to take my kit out of the car, I decided to drop by the Barrows for a couple of hours on the way home Wink

Well, it would have been rude not too! :Smile

I decided to fish No.3 and when I got there 'stockie corner' was busy with around half a dozen anglers lined up along the wall.

The wind was in their backs and they were fishing buzzers on a floating line with some success - all had at least 2 fish and most were well on their way to their limits.

They also had long carbon landing net handles to reach down the 8 or so feet necessary to net their fish froim the top of the perimiter wall. Smile

I didn't so I started further along the sbank where you could access a ledge nearer the water, nest to a water pipe. Sad

I started on a fast sinker with a small weighted tadpole and I had a fish first cast! It weighed 1-4-0 but was very welcome.

The very next cast I had another! Surprised

This time it was a wonderful overwintered rainbow, as silver as a 10 pence piece with a tail like a shovel. It weighed 2-4-0. Very Happy

That was two fish with my first two casts so I had obviously cracked it, hadn't I? ;D

Er no ... Those first two pulls were my last pulls and even though I fished the floater and intermediate with buzzers etc I didn't get another sniff Sad

It was fishing well though and people in 'stockie corner' were bagging up fishing buzzers under indicators and at least 3 anglers completed their limits while I was there.

Allrounder ;D

Well Blagdon and Chew are slow I know but the good old tanks can be guaranteed to produce when all others fail and it certainly did today Very Happy

I had 6 fish from "Stockie Corner" and although 4 of them were Barrow size Stockies they all appeared to be on Steroids 'cos they went like submarines ;D

I had three Rainbows on small Black Buzzers fished under a bung , one of which went over 2lbs and 3 Browns on a Cat's whisker under an intermediate one going over 3lbs.

It nealry ripped my hand off when it took Surprised

Stockie corner and all the way up to the inlet flow (looking left from the corner) was very busy. I saw at least two limits taken and over 50 fish must have come out to 9 or 10 anglers.

I was kept busy by a friendly Scotsman next to me who had turned up without a landing net and proceeded to take his limit.
All of them being netted by yours truly ;D

O.K so we don't all enjoy the roar of the A38 in the background or the planes coming into Lulsgate but, ctaching fish at Barrow is a damned site better than blanking at Blagdon Surprised

The local 'Tanks Brigade' told me that it had been fishing like this for well over a week now and they were worried that it could switch off really soon as so many fish had been taken out.

Well you can't have it both ways. If a water is fishing well than fish are bound to be taken out.
Let's hope Ubley have got their replacements ready Wink

Happy 'Tank Tripping'

I had to go into Bristol this morning and stopped off at the Tanks as I literally need to drive past it.

Same story I'm glad to report

All the local Barrow Boys still bagging up from the corner of No3

I was there for ten minutes and saw three anglers land 3 fish.

Most had 5 or 6 and this was only 11.00 a.m

No guesses where I'll be tomorrow

Gave the Tanks another go this morning for a few hours and

bumped into 'Bristol Flyer' from here on the Forum.

N ice to see another local 'Bristol Waters' angler on here

No: 3 is still fishing O.K form 'Stockie Corner' allbeit a little

slower than the last couple of days.

I managed 6 in 4 hours. Mostly Barrow stockies but a nice Brown

of 2lb +

4 fish coming to a deep black and green Buzzer under a bung.

2 fish to the Cat's Whisker on an Intermediate again and then

later as the fish moved up a tad , I had 2 more on the middle

dropper which was a small hot head Diawl Bach.

The biggest surprise of the morning in one way was seeing Dev

Strickley walking up the steps, cursing about Chew.

When I saw himn I knew I was in the right place

He did offer an explanation though as to why the Bristol Water's

catch returns appeared as they did but that's on another

thread

Cheers

HI Mark.

I was amazed at how the Brownies snatched the Cat's Whisker.

One of them really smashed into it

I'll second that!!

I popped along today for my first ever sesison at barrow tanks. I fished tank 3, on the left when your at the top of the steps.

I started off with a goldhead on a 8ft leader. I cast to a rising fish that was close in, and the fish took it within 5 seconds.

My second fish came to a 'home tied' green buzzer fished under a bung. It put up a great fight, even though it was les that 1.5lbs!

The last fish was a Brown of about 2lb, It really did smash in to the 'home tied' green buzzer, and lept clear of the water a few times !!

SO a great first session on the barrows, and i shall return. One thing i will say is that the fish eemed to sudenly all rise. There would be nothing, then 5 or so fish would rise almost at once!

Just spent a very pleasant and very cold few hours at Barrow with Steve ( Blondie)

We started on No 3 but what supposed to be a southerly turned out to be a freezing North Easterly. It was more like March than May.

Hiked over to No 1 and fished the Wall round from the inlet.

Much more productive. Steve had 4 fish when I left but I reckon by the time he adds to this tonight that total will have gone up.

I had 3. All mine were Browns and I think Steve had 2 of each.

Steve's fish came to small black buzzers and a PTN gold head and mine were all on Black & Green Buzzers.

There were quite a few regulars round there including Dev who now thinks there could be a serious problem with Chew as it's still not fishing

It was great to meet and fish with Steve. Thoroughly nice bloke as all the forum members I've fished with have been

Looks like Barrow again for a while

I know what you mean Trout.

I don't want to be a panic merchant but I am beginning to wonder if there's a serious problem there Question

I'm going to Blagdon on Thursday and as well as fishing I'll do the rounds and try and find out what's happening Wink
