Casting club next meeting: Wednesday, 05-Sep-2012 6.30-8.30pm

*** this will be the final Wednesday evening meet of 2012 at Platt Fields Park ***

It will be decidedly dusky by 8.30pm this week. We need to decide what to do next.

The simple options would seem to be:
a) continue to meet on a midweek evening at a floodlit (or indoor) venue
b) shift to a weekend morning; either continuing at Platt Fields, or another venue
c) have a break from meeting

Floodlit venues: most floodlit venues cost money (see below): the astroturf 5-a-side courts in S. Manchester cost £33/hour. Barlow RC High School has an offer for block-bookings of 10 weeks: we usually meet for 2 hours. At Barlow that would cost roughly £57/week, but we would have to stump-up for 10 weeks. Obviously we have met at free venues up to now and I would like that to continue. (I have looked at the fields alongside my local 5-a-side venues, so that we could "borrow" their light ... the grass is too poorly managed to propose this) Another possibility is cricket/football/rugby pitches with good grass and lighting: I don't know what these might cost.

Weekend mornings: Sunday would work best for me. How about you?

Venues: Platt Fields has the benefit of water, but as there has been an increasing interest in distance casting on grass, we could look for an outdoor venue with better grass. My local cricket pitch has a great outfield but no floodlights.

The third way: midweek evening, floodlit venue, no snaggy grass, ... a supermarket car park! Even a tour of the supermarket/DIY store car parks of South Manchester. Lots of straight lines to cast along!

Let me know what you think please. Even if you have never been to MCC but fancy coming, do chip in Smile
