Going back a few seasons and on one of my first fishing trips to Blagdon with a mate who was on his first outing fly fishing I hooked into a fish off butcombe. For a few seconds it was fighting like a nice stockie and then it stopped and turned and stripped line from me and seemed to keep on going... I called to my mate and he watched on as my rod bent over and I struggled to hold on... Then it went slacker again and started heading back to me at a rate of knots... The 2lb rainbow nearly beached itself in its rush to escape the clutches of the fish that had tried eating it.. The belly was gorged open and it had slashes down its flank. the fished was dispatched.

It all ends next week on Saturday 30th November so I'll definately be out tomorrow on the Tanks. Same times as last week - 9am to dark or when I've had enough. Smile

I will be tying some 'Tups Indescribables' this afternoon Very Happy

Anyone else out?

Much tougher on the Tanks today. Sad

I arrived on No.1 this morning at 9.30am just in time to see Steve (blondie) net a fish on his favourite Orange Booby. I thought this meant we were in for a repeat of last Sunday's session but sadly it wasn't to be. Sad

The Mouser who fished last week was there again but unlike last week his rod remained motionless throughout and he packed up at noon with a single fish caught before we arrived. I struggled for the first couple of hours with just one pull which didn't stick before I managed to put one in my net. The fish weighed around 1-8 and took an Orange Booby ... what else? Rolling Eyes Very Happy

By 12 noon we thought it was time for a wander so we decided to try the road side bank on No.1. We started in the corner by No.2 where I was astonished to get a pull on my first cast. Steve did even better and hooked one but it came adrift as he was bringing it to the net. Sad

And that was it really. We fished on but things were really slow so we called it a day at 3pm with honours even. Still it was great to be out with Steve again and nice to see Mike (Brownsville) on the bank too. Cool

I might be out next Saturday for the last day of the season, but much will depend on the weather. Smile

Hi Andrew - are you going to be able to say in advance whether tying will be in the skittle alley or bar?

Cheers,
Dave

Good luck to any forumites getting in a last day at the Tanks tomorrow.
Had a good session up there myself today. Silly, but it's my first visit to the venue this year and I leave it so late!
Got there about 9 and started by the inlet in the corner of No 2. Soon in to my first fish which was also my best of the day - a stunning looking 3lb brownie that took a black and silver humungus on the point fished on a slow glass.
Then spent most of the morning working my way up and down that bank and finding fish all the way along. Small shoals working up and down as you would often get knocks and takes in small clusters.
I stayed on the slow glass with the humungus on the point and a pearly cormorant and a mini black fritz on the droppers. The wind was making it increasingly difficult but they weren't too far out and as long you could cast across and down the wind it was OK.
At one point the wind did push me to have a look at No 1 but that was a fruitless 45 minutes or so. And as soon as I went back to No 2 I was in to fish again.
I did see fish moving on the surface through the middle of the day but not enough to get me to change tactics, although I was tempted to pop a booby on.
I finished at 2.00 with 16 to the net (all released), 2 browns and the rest rainbows, best about 2lb 140z with a massive tail on it.
It was a fairly even split between the huey and the cormorant with a couple coming to the mini lure. Wasn't moving them fast, just a mix of slow and steady Fo8.
Great way to round off the Bristol season for this year and I really will make more of an effort to get along to the Tanks more often.
Thanks to BW for a fabulous season on all waters and best wishes till next season to all the friends on here that I have met along the way.

Welcome to the Dark Side, Andrew! Laughing

Sounds like you had a fantastic day for any time of the year, let alone late November! Shock Cool

Anyone out tomorrow? I expect I'll fish the Tanks again as the weather doesn't look too bad. Smile

Tomorrow is your last chance until next March Laughing

I know. it's a "bit out of area" but has anyone been to Woolaston Court lately. I'm hoping to get a trip up there next week, on Thursday, albeit weather permitting, & was wondering if anyone else had been there recently & what their experiences were ?
