Welcome to 2014 and thanks to Alan for kicking it all off.
If this season proves to be anywhere near as good as 2013 we are in for a great year. I'm sure that there will be more changes along the way. Bristol Water are keen to retain top quality fly fishing for trout on our local lakes and they are working hard to make sure that happens.
One of my new year resolutions was to reduce the numbers of different types of flies in my box. But I don't expect that to last beyond the end of January!
Speaking of which - a quick reminder that the BRFFA Fly Tying Mondays will kick off again from January 13th at the Stoke Inn.
Look forwards to seeing you out there in the not too distant future. |

Took the kids to the tea shop at chew yesterday with the intention of having a walkabout but the weather turned a bit ugly when we arrived there.
Not all was lost the hot chocolate and cake were splendid as was watching the Egyptian geese chasing the mallards around the place.
stopped in the layby by herons on the way home, the water levels look the same as when I fished it last march, im busting to go fishing now and its only the begining of January, may have to dust off the beachcasters and go dig some lug!
cheers mike |

My New years Resolution - I will not say anything derogatory about Pike.
With about £100,000 of revenue generated from the Pike Trials I think Chew and Blagdon will continue as a premier Trout fisheries during my lifetime.
Happy New Year everybody.
Doug

I've just seen on facebook, that ALL 2014's Pike tickets have now sold out. _________________ Hi there, I have around 40 yrs exp. of tying flies, incl. some semi-pro work. I've taught at adult evening classes, written for and supplied photos for most U.K. fly magazines. Given talks/slide shows/lectures/demonstrations etc. Am founder and life pres. of local Fly Dressers Guild (27years), our members have won more prizes for tying than any other similar club, we've also won several national flyfishing comps. I look forward to both learning from and contributing to this highly respected forum. |

Chew is now full again, pic courtesy of John Horsey https://twitter.com/johnhorsey
Maybe it is just me, but I like the lake to fully recharge over the winter months before the season reopens in March
However enough is enough - we've had enough rain this winter. A few dry weeks from now on wouldn't go amiss!

I'm with you Alan - a full lake just seems the 'right' way to start the season. |
