hi guys when i was living in bristol i learned alot reading from this forum trout wise,you were all great help,
been back cornwall few years now i had couple years of from fishing properly odd trip her there, got back in too seafishing,
but something has always drawn me to pike flyfishing, this year i want to do it up chew properly and drains in winter exeter canal etc
i have an 8weight guessing thats fine for drains, but would you get 9weight or 10weight for chew, dont want to spend
alot, thinking the shakespeare agillity aps rod £55 or shall i spend lot more be for 2-3 trips year on chew, nothing in cornwall really,
what tippet trace line you use then wire etc, would you use swivel to connect both,
i have a few pike flies from when in bristol, where is best place buy some,
anything else i need obvs forceps mat etc ,
anyone heading too cornwall i can give advice sea fishing fly etc |

Lakefisher (Tony) and Allrounder (Alan) should be able to help mate. They do a fair bit and know a fair bit. Think it's 9 or 10wt you want. Chew pike a re a bit lumpy when you hit a big one.

You'll find it a lot easier to launch big flies with a heavier rod Cornish. To be honest, you could comfortably land most big pike on a 7# or 8# much as you can carp or salmon but these lower weights would struggle to turn over the trace and fly necessary. 
As Mark says, Alan and Tony will be very helpful being in your area.

I prefer to foul hook my pike on dry flies but talking to others that know far more than me I would recommend a day's guided pike fly fishing with John Horsey - not cheap but he should be able to tell you all you need to know in a day afloat. You may even catch a 40lb monster like one of his client's did last year!
If you are intending to fish Chew from the bank I must say that this will probably be less productive than it was a few years ago - there seem to be a lot less smaller pike in the margins than there were when I first started fishing Chew 9 years ago. |

thank you for replies, heavier rod it will be for bigger flies,it will be from boat hopefully bristol flyer, done the bank before,
i did think of a guide heard john is lot of money £200 for day not sure how true it is |
