Looking to take advantage of a "Pikey" forecast of overcast with a 6mph southerly/westerly later, I did a spur of the moment trip to Chew this morning.

Words in the lodge said that my usual haunt of Stratford had seen some recent pike action - so a bee line was made for the edge of the weed-bed out from the white buoys. Echo-sounder showing the temperature at 19 degrees C and a measured visibility of 4 feet. Wind southerly about 5mph.

On went my Guideline 3-1 tipped with a Bush Pig in olive and white with added perch stripes that got me a 14 pounder when I was out with Alan Allrounder on the 31st of August. Couple of dozen casts produced one follow from a mayhap 6ish pound Pike - and a positive take from one that weighed in at 8 pounds according to my McLean weigh net.

Sorry no pics as I,d done a stupid - took out my camera to get my usual "sliding it to the net" shot - and it was dead - then I remembered where the battery was - at home, left in the charger Embarassed
Three more smaller pike followed their friend into the net on my first drogued drift that finished just before hitting the weed-beds of Roman shallows. Another came early on my next drift parallel to the first and that was it for the days catches. Lessening wind constantly veering in direction certainly didn't help Rolling Eyes

Many changes of fly, depth and retrieve speeds only producing the odd follow from both Pike and a couple of large Rainbows. The sun put in an appearance around 3.30 and that killed off even the follows - so gave it best around 4 to start the long trip home - Most enjoyable day, shame the action didn't last long

Cheers ...... Tony Cool

Nice one Tony, good to have some action! The wind was pretty feeble yesterday so challenging to cover water effectively! It's a bugger when you see the sun creeping out. It seems we rarely have days of perfect fishing weather!

Cheers.
