Given a suitable forecast - West wind & overcast - I decided to have a croc hunt at Chew today.

Visibility through the water column was a splendid 7 to 9 feet at various positions around the lake, but I must admit to being surprised at the temperature, 19.4 C was the highest I had on the Humminbird.

Started by the orange buoys in hollow brook, over 20 feet of water as "the jungle drums" had said there were pike to be had in this area - Gave it a couple of hours on my Rio S6 and a wide assortment of flies with not so much as a tap or follow Rolling Eyes So off to my more usual haunts at the other end of the lake.

Soon had a follow in Stratford, to a silver wiggle tail - but not from the expected Pike - but a Great Crested Grebe Laughing Gave a huge swirl behind my fly before quickly surfacing and flying away - then immediately a pike drifted upwards - maybe coughed up by the shocked Grebe, floating motionless on the surface - so a pic was called for as I didn't believe my eyes

To give an idea of scale, its pictured with a 4" flashabou roach - by a long way, the smallest pike I have ever seen Laughing

Just a trio of successful attacks to report - 2 jacks and a slightly bigger beast - all on the wiggle tail

and the beast in the net - a guestimated 8 (ish) pounds.

and that was all the interest shown today - Gave it best at around 5 completely shattered.

Cheers ...... Tony Very Happy
