As yesterday was to be the last possible fly Croc hunt this year, Alan Allrounder and I had booked a boat. As it happens 25 other boats were out after the Pike in the form of a match - subsequently won by John Horsey (see his FB page)

Weather was very cold early, with the first frost of the winter, but warmed later as the sun blasted down from a blue sky Rolling Eyes Flat calm conditions not helping.

Only one success, and that was Alan's, although I did manage a couple of follows and a brief thump from several fish - one hit so hard on the drop that She pulled me off balance - Alan thought I'd gone overboard Laughing But even that hard a hit refused to stick Embarassed

So, here's a couple of pics of "the man with the smug grin" to enjoy ......

Taken just over the drop off of an original stream bed, She was Chew's typical breeze block with fins, that went 18 pounds in my weigh net Cool Well done Alan - even if I was a tad jealous Laughing

Looking forward to some experimental Pike fly ties over the dark days - and then the start of a new season Laughing

Cheers for this year ....... Tony Very Happy

Great report on a tough day with some nice pics too. Many thanks, Tony! Cool

We knew where the fish would be, but so did many of the pike competitors so we elected to avoid those areas so as not to interfere with their match. I thought we might at least pick up a few Jacks but it was one of those days when hits are few and far between and I was just lucky enough to pull the short straw. Smile

Many thanks for your company on Chew this season, Tony! Looking forward to next season already. Very Happy

Nice report chaps, not everyone has the determination to go on the fly this late after the lures and deadbaits! Interestingly Mr Horsey said lures scored very well in the comp for some, and he was sure it was worth a go on the fly at the moment. Also I heard many people got hit and the fish didnt stick, similar to what Tony experienced.
