There's the possibility that attaching the bead chain eyes may make this a challenge for beginners but it's not too challenging and the end result is worth the effort. This is a pattern I've used, particularly early season, and there are always a few in my fly box.
Hook: Hayabusa 761, Competition Heavyweight, Size 8
Thread: Nano Silk Ultra 30D, Black
Tail: Pearl Shimmer & Shine under, black Marabou over
Body: UV Black Straggle Fritz
Eyes: Bead Chain (B&Q!)
Step 1
Using a very strong thread such as the Nano thread, lay on a base where the eyes will be. Add a drop of super glue and lash the eyes securely to the top of the shank using 'figure of eight' Coat the wraps, soak the wraps top and bottom with super glue. It's a good idea to make up a batch of half a dozen or so and be sure to allow the super glue to dry fully.
Step2
Reattach the thread behind the eyes and take it in touching turns to a point above the barb. Tie in a small bunch of the flash fibres. The flash fibres should be about twice the length of the hook.
Step3
Directly above the flash fibres tie in a generous bunch of black marabou. Measure the bunch to be the same length as the flash fibres.
Step 4
At the base of the marabou tie in the straggle fritz and wind it forwards in touching turns, trying to stroke the straggle fibres backwards and trap as few as possible. Figure of eight the fritz between the bead chain eyes and tie off in front. Tidy up and varnish.
A great little lure early season when used in conjunction with a sinktip and for searching the margins. _________________ https://gameanglinginstructors.co.uk/search.html |
