Here is a question. Is the snake an updated tandem fly?

Excuse the tandem fly tying I knocked it up last night, a Steve Parton tandem would consist of two connected long shank hooks.
The picture is an 8 long shank woolly bugger ( for L.M bass fishing) the snake is a short version (7cm) and an old style tandem but tied on standard hooks.

What do you think, I have never really fished tandem flies but I bet they would still work on a fast sink, back drifting.

I think your right Peter - Snake flies seemed to have evolved with the use of rabbit zonker strips which I can't remember being available back in the day.

Tandem lures ... that takes me back a bit! Here is an early fishing diary entry I made concerning a Chew session nearly 40 years ago, dated 5th April 1980 ...

'Mike Terry and I fished Villice Bay on Chew this morning. The morning was bright and sunny but very still and no fish were moving at all. There was one angler fishing when we arrived who had already caught one fish on a White lure and had lost one on a yellow buzzer. I fished nymphs and buzzers but had no luck although Mike lost a nice Rainbow on a Two Hook Dunkeld lure but that was the only action we saw'.

I think Snake flies are a modern twist to the old tandem lures and the sea trout fly of the same name. Just goes to show there is nothing new in fishing!

PS yes ... I really did fish nymphs and buzzers a lot back then. It's how I taught myself to blank!
