I made the journey to Ravensthorpe with the kayak yesterday with high expectations. When I fish with the kayak there is always a lot of messing around involved such as loading and unloading onto the roof rack and sorting out the minimal a mount of kit to take out plus making sure everything is lashed on in case it goes overboard.
To cut a long story short I struggled, the wind got up and the winning method was washing line from a anchored boat, as I could not anchor my drift was to fast and I just missed out on the action. I saw a lot of fish moving but could not connect with dries and found nymphs fished shallow the best option in the situation.
The water condition was good but with suspend algie layer at the top of the water. It is a lovely place to fish and very peaceful apart from when the local farmer is harvesting.
There were also about five dead trout in the margins with their heads missing, otters no doubt.
