Sun 4th March

Apologies to Chris for providing the wrong information, the radio was hard to read as there were other users butting in as so often happens but Broadbill did not actually get a stripey today but instead tagged and released 5 sailfish. There were 2 novice anglers on board so they did really well since on our boats we expect the anglers to hook their own fish. This is quite unusual in sea fishing these days as charter boats compete with one another to catch the most billfish and hence return to dock with more flags up the rigger than their competitors. But, it is no big deal to teach someone to do it themselves and the angler gets far more satisfaction out of their fishing. In my opinion if a crew member hooks a fish for you then you can not truly claim to have caught that fish.

Of the other boats out today "Shuwari" tagged a sail with "White Otter" and "Jasiri" missing out, but the private boat, "Buccaneer" managed to get 2 striped marlin. Incidentally my senior crew from "Kamara II", Hamisi was on board driving the "Buccaneer" today.

Sea Adventures Ltd, Shimoni, Kenya offers fishing charters on either the 46-ft "Broadbill" skippered by the old man of the sea, Pat or on the 42-ft "Kamara II skippered by myself in to the Pemba Channel or live aboard fishing safaris. In my reports I will try to give an honest appraisal of the fishing out of Shimoni, whether on our boats or others.
