C.B unfortunately my casting skills were not up to that of the gentleman who had the cheek to catch all them fish from my previous swim ,he probably had a few yards on me which might of been all the difference ,either that or god hates me

I'm not Steve although I'm pretty sure Trout wil be over at Wick
I'm still trying to swap my day next week so I can fish Blagdon opening with Allrounder.
Weather looks well dodgy though after tomorrow
Could be a repeat of last year
1 degree and I don't get on very well

That's disappointing
Can't help wondering what effect this cold snap has had ?
Actualy Chew fished better on the actual opening day rather than two days earlier on the season permit holders day
Not sure why ????
May see you for an hour on Thursday morning Trout

God forbid, Chris.
CB and I will be there on Thursday although I expect he is now regretting his decision after looking at the weather forecast and reading Trout's report.
Anyone else planning to fish Thursday?

might fish after school on thursday... weather depending.
good luck guys.... the just up from ash trees fished well i think.
u can fit 2 people in there, but watch for the ledge!! also just up from that there is a smal place by the bench (again watch for the ledge) there is also a bit up from that which doesnt lok very good ( you have to climb through some reeds) but there is a drop off there and ive had a few fish from there in the past..... _________________ Trout |

Cheers for the tip Trout.
I know that ledge well and slipped on it last year.
It's a bit tight if I remember rightly as you need the backcast to go between the trees.
We're hoping to get on to Peg's if not the owl box or down the far car park end.
We're both only fishing to lunchtime but we'll leave a few in there for you Mate _________________ " Have a nice day" |

Well for what it's worth guys, here's my sorry tale for yet another Opening Day at BLANKdon.
Arrived at North Shore car park 4.00 a.m third in queue, soon joined by Allrounder. Peg's and Ash Tree were bagged first as I guessed so we were quite happy to motor on down to the far car park and fish the North Bank there.
Well after over an hour and a half seven rods had not had even a pull
Contrast that with Chew just a week ago on the North Shore when, by 7.05 a.m twelve rods were bent into fish consecutively
A move was called for....................
Had a chat with the two guys fishing Peg's and they had had the same fortune
Drove via the Ubley gate around to Green Lawn and Rainbow point which also seemed slow.
Eventually called in at Cheddar Water to find two gaps left either side of the Oak tree.
Allrounder kindly took the Pipe Bay side and left me the other. As I was about to wade in, a rather large gentleman from the Land of the Dragons, nipped in and squeezed me out.
This left one fishble swim right into Pipe Bay.
Meanwhile Allrounder had found fish and landed a 3- 4lb 'Bow and then a superb fish of 5lb 2oz which he kindlt swapped for a brew up
After five hours without so much as a pull I called it a day.
I left Allrounder with 3 Trout and wait for it...................................You guessed a Toothy Critter.
That man's a Pike Magnet
Can't help admitting disappointment for what should have been a really good day, especially as Chew had fished so well last week.
Hey Ho that's Blagdon for you, Moody and unpredictable.
To be fair CHeddar Water fished quite well if you could get in.
Pics of Allrounder fish to follow.
Hope Trout picks up a few this evening

CB clearly doesn't know what he is talking about.
Blagdon was excellent today
It did start very slowly and when the Ranger who opened the gates for us had a phonecall to say that the first fish had been caught at Ash Trees at 7.20pm we already knew that it wasn't going to be another start like Chew so we gave it another hour then decided to move.
We had a drive around the lake but things were slow everywhere with only odd fish caught and CB ... Mr Blagdon himself! ... even suggested we go to Chew instead but we decided to fish Cheddar Water for half an hour first.
I certainly agree with CB that our fellow angler from the land of the dragons didn't exactly cover himself in glory this morning with the result that my genuine offer of the better swim backfired. There was plenty of room by the seat but he deliberately moved across to close the space off. CB would have definitely caught from that spot and it is the sort of antics I deplore.
It started well for me though as I had a fish first cast and by the time CB was thinking of going home I had 3 fish and a 2lb approx toothy critter as a bonus. Here are a couple of phone pics of the day. Apologies for poor quality ...
CB always makes a great cuppa when we go fishing
My new PB rainbow from a ressie at 5-1-0
The fish were down deep and wanted black and green boobies fished slowly along the bottom on a fast sinker and although CB protests that he can't cast fast sinking lines, I noted that he had no problem putting my shooting head out 30 metres + !
Come noon, CB ignored my pleas to 'just give it another hour' and packed up. In the next two hours I was fortunate enough to pick up another 5 fish including two over 4lbs to go with the 5-1-0 fish (not 5-2-0 as CB said but thanks for the extra ounce, mate!) to complete my limit by 2pm.
This makes it difficult for me to agree that Blagdon fished poorly today as I had my limit 90 minutes quicker than at Chew and I had bigger fish too, including my PB reservoir trout.
It is only borrowed though. Knowing CB, It won't be long before I am on the wrong end of a battering!
