Do you prefer Mono or Braid for spinning/plugging?

You definitely get a better feel through the rod when lure fishing. Never used it for mainline for anything other than plugging and as a lot of fisheries now have a ban on braid mainlines I doubt I ever will. _________________ "The measure of a good fisherman is not what he catches but how he enjoys the moment" - Richard Walker |

I use mono for most of my fishing except for pluging and spinning.

IMO, there,s room for both mono and braid in spin/lure fishing. I would argue braid is better for pike lure fishing, espesh with jerkbaits, crankbaits, soft plastic baits, both for imparting better "action" to your lure, and to detect/strike any takes.
I think mono is better for your simpler "cast and wind in" spin fishing with Mepps type lures/flyspoons/Toby,s for trout/salmon/shad, not least because of a good nylon line being a lot more resistant to abrasion from rocks, stones etc, that are found on our faster flowing game type rivers. Arguably, you,ll lose less perch on nylon than braid as perch,s mouths can lead to the hook pulling on braid.
That,s my thoughts anyway...........I,ll don me helmet ! _________________ Time spent in recconnaissance is seldom wasted........... |

Mono for me, the only time I've used braid is on a feature/marker rod, and it was fantastic, many of my friends had a go with braid for Sea angling and Carping but all had the same problem, "HOOK pulls", most braids just do not have enough give, I watched my mate landing a 30 lb mirror on braid, scary stuff, he did net the fish, but after looking at the damage done to both fish and hook he no longer uses braid.

I exclusively use braid with a floro leader (or even a long mono shock leader for certain applications like trolling or trout fishing) and would never, ever go back to mono.
Braid lasts forever, has no memory and no stretch. Fishing with mono is like using a curly piece of pasta. _________________ WWW.UCHelpCenter.com |

It was not the line but rather the rod was to heavy and the drag not set right. You can do the same thing with mono if you pressure the fish to strongly. If you use braid you need to adjust your tactics and equipment accordingly. _________________ WWW.UCHelpCenter.com |

Braid all the way. Much more feel with braid due to the stretch of mono. |

indeed, braid rains superior to mono when spinning as you can feel each pluck and tap of the lure and make it work to its full potential _________________ We All Love Fishing...
